This course explore the fascinating world of textiles, exploring their science and technology from fiber to fabric. We'll unveil the fundamental properties of natural and synthetic fibers, and how they are transformed into yarns and woven or knitted into fabrics. You'll gain a strong understanding of textile construction methods, dyeing, printing, and finishing processes, and how these influence a fabric's performance and care.

By the end of the course, you'll be able to:

  • Differentiate between various fibers and their characteristics.
  • Explain the processes of yarn and fabric construction.
  • Identify different types of woven and knitted fabrics.
  • Describe textile dyeing, printing, and finishing techniques.
  • Analyze the relationship between fiber properties, construction methods, and fabric performance.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides a comprehensive exploration of the science and engineering principles behind clothing design and production. Students will gain a deep understanding of the various stages involved in garment creation, from raw materials to finished products.

Assessment

Assessment for learning will comprise of ; 

  • 75% and above class attendance 
  • CAT 1 – 30% 
  • CAT 2 - 70%
  •  End of Term Examinations – 100% 
  • Active class participation

GENERAL COURSE OUTCOME

  • Construct a well-fitting garment using appropriate sewing machine techniques and construction methods.
